ICONIQA: Horror Couture

Born in China and raised in a conservative environment, drag artist and designer Niohuru X has transformed Chinese folklore, body horror and sculptural makeup into a hypnotic visual identity of her own. With an aesthetic that feels pulled straight out of a digital nightmare and an almost surgical obsession with detail, she has established herself as one of the most radical and fascinating figures in the new international drag scene.
After studying fashion in New York and appearing in the “Agora Hills” music video by Doja Cat, Niohuru X fully broke into the global spotlight as the first Chinese contestant on The Boulet Brothers’ Dragula. Her universe, filled with mythological creatures, impossible textures and monstrously elegant transformations, ultimately led her to become the winner of the show’s fifth season.
Now, Niohuru X continues to expand a singular artistic universe where fashion, horror and performance art collide with absolutely no mercy for normality. Like the best nightmares: unsettling, beautiful and impossible to ignore.
