If the world must end, don’t let it be said that we didn’t try to save it. The Detroit quartet Protomartyr have been writing inflammatory songs under this premise since they debuted with No Passion All Technique (Urinal Cake Records, 2012), a treatise of unsweetened post-punk with highly literary contents.

The band fronted by Joey Casey, whose all-pervasive voice has generated comparisons with Mark E. Smith and Nick Cave, has not stopped even to breathe in the last five years.  Last September they released Relatives in Descent (Domino, 2017), their fourth album, coproduced with Sonny DiPerri (Animal Collective, Dirty Projectors). It is once again a compendium of songs that works both as a spark for mad pogoing sessions and for starting revolutions.
