A Little Italy in Barcelona: Calcutta will take over Razzmatazz in June with their Mediterranean pop

Edoardo D'Erme will bring his project, which is as close to contemporary crooners such as Destroyer and Sean Nicholas Savage as it is to Italian song legends like Lucio Battisti and Luca Carboni, to Razzmatazz on 6th June

There are some very Italian things that should be done there, in Italy, because of course context matters. Eat a pizza marinara, ride a Vespa, drink a Negroni. The scenery, with its cobblestones, its waiters talking to you in a language that is certainly not as similar to Spanish as you thought it was, and its mental traffic, is an indispensable part of the package. The Calcutta experience, on the other hand, is worth living it out of context to experience its almost magical powers: any space in which the proudly Mediterranean pop of Edoardo D'Erme can be heard automatically acquires an Italianness in which Duolingo is superfluous. You can understand everything instantly, everything is familiar, possibly because deep down he is as close to contemporary crooners like Destroyer and Sean Nicholas Savage as he is to heroes of Italian song such as Lucio Battisti and Luca Carboni. Or perhaps because the echoes of the Sanremo festival also resonate on this shore of the Mediterranean.

Barcelona will have its own Little Italy at the end of next spring with the return of Calcutta to the city five years later. After performing at the Sala Apolo in 2019, he will make the leap to Razzmatazz on 6th June to present RELAX, his fourth album.
