If you have a listen to June Freedom's discography, which is still short but exuberant, you will find some familiar places... and others perhaps not so familiar. The Cape Verdean artist, whose real name is Pedro Fontes Veiga, has so far used his music to express himself either in English, Portuguese, Spanish or Kriolu, a minority Creole language of his native country, so it is impossible to pigeonhole him according to geographical coordinates. And yet, his blend of funk, R&B and Afrobeats automatically appeals to anyone who listens to him, wherever they come from, because his is absolutely a universal language. What June Freedom is proposing is a global party in the same line as Rema, Masego, YEИDRY, Aya Nakamura and Stromae.
